I currently have a Asus Z87 Standard Motherboard, and a 4770k. I have little knowledge and experience about overclocking. I know that You need to change the multiplier and voltage, but what I've done in the past is change the multiplier to 40 without changing the voltage, then when I ran my PC there was no notice in temp and performance. Then I went into ASUS CPU-Z And in the model/name of the CPU it still said 3.5GHz. Any help? Also, any advice on any good cooling for 4.0-4.8GHz if possible? (Currently have 2 massive ugly sluggish heatsinks/fans right above my CPU.

Did you stress the CPU when checking the clocks?

The extent of your Overclock depends on your cooler and the silicon in your CPU. Your cooler doesn't sound that good lol

As I said, did you actually stress the CPU when checking your frequencies? You may need to also re-write your BIOS. I had this issue on my ASUS board where my clocks were frozen even though the BIOS said they were lower. I would change the multiplier but my frequencies would stay the same.

yo bro I got a 4770K and an h100i I got a stable overclock of 4.5Ghz with 1.275V which is not amazing but pretty normal around "standard" haswell chips, if you want a good cooler go with the corsair h100i.

And if you really want to exceed to 4.6 with haswell you need a custom watercooling system or you might have to delid your CPU, from what I've seen people that achieve those clocks delided their CPU

I was looking at that and is obviously recommended, but can you tell me if it's in the case or is ontop of it because there's a lot of people who come in and out of my room as I am in university and I don't want them to know my computer w/ peripherals is around $4000 xD.

I'm not sure what you mean by stress test. Someone a while back told me I need to run a program, I can't remember what it's called, but it stress tested my CPU and I got around 70c avg

Prime 95 is likely the program you're referring to. But apparently Intel Extreme Tuning Utility is better for Haswell.
