So currently i have a X99 system with the 5820k, i am going to build a new system soon, but the whole 5820k vs 6700k makes me wanna go cry in the corner of my room

Money aside, what is the best allround CPU for gaming and everday task? i will also be running a 980 or a 980ti.

And yes, i have seen the LinusTechTips vid but it didnt really make me any more secure.

And there where also a pinned post in here about PCIe lanes which got me even more confused,  maybe someone could explain that. (Something about PCIe 2.0, and Intel 750 ssd which i am planning on putting in the system, but that the intel is PCIe 3.0 and my god it is HARD!!!)

Technically, the 6700K is better for gaming, as the individual cores are faster, which is what matters for games. However, the 5820K isn't going to bottleneck any card in games, but will do a fair bit better for rendering, editing and such type workloads.

As for PCIe lanes, both CPUs have enough lanes to run two cards and the SSD I believe. It should be able to run off the Chipset's PCIe lanes

What about futureproofing? Maybe 6-cores will be more needed in future games and apps?!

Yeah, AMD said that about the FX series a few years ago, look where we are now..... dual / quad cores still rule.

If you primary use your computer for gaming and general desktop application get the 6700K.   I don't know enough about all the differences in CPUs besides the cores but hte 6700K comes with the new chipset which gives you newer features that the x99 doesn't.   Also the x99 CPUs are way overpriced for which you get in my opinion.  The only reason I see for quad channel DDR4 is graphic rendering.

Im pretty sure X99 is more expensive overall than Z170 anyways so you're best off rebuilding with a 6700K if you're replacing every component.

Which nobody failed to mention here ;D

Eh the i7-6700K is slightly better in most titles... but really if you get a 5820K to 4.3GHz or beyond it's a better option IMO. There are a handful of games that really enjoy extra CPU horespower/cores (particularly games with loads of NPCs, as that can be offloaded to other threads), and I expect we'll see the same from future triple A titles particularly in the RPG, simulation and strategy genres.

The i7-5820K gets my vote but either CPU is an EXCELLENT gaming chip.

If you're building a new system with similar stuff wouldn't it be easier to just... not sell your system and replace the GPU or whatever? :o

If u already have the 5820k it would be a wast of money switching to the 6700k

Reuse the 5820k and go with the 980ti

AMD (and proud) r7 1700 4ghz-

also (1600)

asus rog crosshairs vi hero x370-

MSI 980ti G6 1506mhz slix2 -

Only because their implementation was wrong.
