Hey guys so I wanted to ask how I should configure my storage...

This may be insane to some but I am currently using 5 storage drives... I had a few questions such as how I should prioritize them on the SATA ports on my MB, as well as am I using too many drives? I heard that skylake gives the mainstream more usb ports and PCIe lanes so I'm slightly confused if that includes SATA data ports and whether or not I'm using too many drives.

Secondly I would like partitioning suggestions for any of my drives and bassically would like to know how YOU guys would set up these drives I have.

I will list all my drives and give a detail for how I currently use them but would like to get ideas from you. Thanks for reading, Cheers =)

  • Boot driveSamsung 840 EVO 120gb
  • I use this for my OS, programs like chrome adobe stuff and 1 or 2 games I play regularly.
  • Game driveWD Black 1TB 2014
  • This is my master game drive Nothing but games are here.
  • Storage driveSeagate Barracuda 2TB
  • My 2TB mass storage backups. I keep steam backups here as well as any programs ISOs backup drivers and more.
  • Media driveWD Blue 500GB 2015 model
  • This is my media drive for music, movies, Shadowplay recordings, pictures & random downloads.
  • Modding drive: seagate momentus thin
  • This is used to store every mod I download from sites like Nexus in a safe separate place. I categorize the mod properly and make it easy to find by game and so on, I mod a LOT of games and skyrim typically has about 100GBs of mods in it's ModOrganizer folder by the time I'm done.

That sounds like a good setup although I would switch the 1TB and 2TB HDDs the other way around. 2TB for games and 1TB for backups.

Other than that it 's good.

EDIT: PRobably just get a 4TB HDD and do 4 partitions: 2 for gaming (2TB), 1 for media (1TB), 1 for storage (1TB),

and then keep the rest!

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Wouldn't having more drives make them faster for what they do? Filling up a drive over time slows it down more so I thought. Also my 2TB drive is well.. I have 400GBs left on it lol.

though I plan to do a re install so I probably have more like 700 once that's done.
