Hey,

I am planning to build a new pc inside a server-rack where all my other technical stuff should go as well (av-receiver, BluRay player etc.)

1. Budget & Location

around EUR 1600-1800 in Germany

2. Aim

well just some light work stuff (excel sheet and some mathematical stuff with IBM SPSS but this program is not very demanding). I am not a heavy gamer, atm I only play World of Warships but hopefully I have time for the Witcher 3 an Star Wars Battlefront in the future.

3. Monitors

I have two 1080*1920 TN Monitors right now (LG Flatron W2261VP) and I want to add a new 1440p monitor (Dell U2515H). This monitor is not intended for professional gaming and I want a nice IPS because I am tired of my TN panels. Does anyone have a better recommendation than the Dell U2515H?

4. Peripherals

I don't need any new peripherals.

5. Why are you upgrading?

My old PC is getting really old (I have a Q8300, AMD HD 5670, normal HDDs,  an so forth)

6. Preferences & Other

I prefer Intel over AMD for CPUs, for GPUs I do not really care if nVidia or AMD

The new pc should be relative fast (not for gaming) but overall, like opening programs etc. (my current pc needs about 1min to start Visual Studio 2015) and it should be "future prove" thats why I preffer to go with Intel Skylake and DDR4

Why a server-rack? I want all my stuff in one place stuck away nice and tidy and everything will be a little more silent if the rack is close (at least thats what I hope for)

PC Parts:

CPU: Intel Core i5 6600k (EUR 249,85)

CPU Cooler: Corsair H110 (EUR 106,46)

Motherboard: Asus Z170-A (EUR 139,43)

RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4-2400, 2x 8GB = 16GB (EUR 95,54)

GPU: Asus Radeon R9 380 Strix Gaming (EUR 219,85) or GTX 960 (what should i get?)

PSU: Corsair HXi 80+ Plat. 750 Watts (EUR 158,84)

Storage: Samsung EVO 500GB M.2 SSD (EUR 179,94)

New Monitor: Dell UltraSharp U2515H (EUR 295,95)

= EUR 1.445,86 (inc. Tax and Shipping)

I tough about the new Samsung 950 Pro but I think I will rarely or more likely never need the speed it provides and its the same price as the 850 EVO for half the storage.

For the GPU: I think I wont be able to play Witcher 3 at 1440p all settings at max but at medium settings it should work pretty well (or I drop down to 1080p if needed).

Server:

600*600mm, 27HE Linkbasic Rack (EUR 211,33)

4 HE Inter-Tech Server Case (H/B/T; 178x485x483mm) (EUR 64,12)

some extra stuff (cable management, rack mounted power strip) (approximately EUR 40-50)

= EUR around 350-400

The Server will only be around 2-3 meters away from my Monitors / Peripherals so latency should not be a problem am I correct?

For the Server Case: I think all parts should be able to fit in there, I have only two extra 1 TB Seagate 3.5 Zoll HDDs. For the CPU cooler I most likely need a custom mount option but I think thats something I will be able to manage.

Any recommendations on changing some parts?

Yeah.. The 960 is almost obsolete now with the 380. Also, don't get Asus when buying an AMD GPU (CU2 isn't very efficient with these GPUs.) Get a Sapphire or an XFX.

Also, you could go with 650W for your PSU.

Hey okay then I will swap them. Do you now any fully modular 80+ plat. 650W PSUs? If not, would this be okay? Corsair RM 650

The RM series isn't the best. If you're going for an ATX PSU then an EVGA 650w GS would be good. The G2 650w would be quieter, but it's a bit longer.

EDIT- It doesn't list any prices. If it's a lot more than the RM 650, then don't get it. But, if it's the same price or just a bit more, buy it instead.

Its only 5 Euros more so I will take the GS then. Thank you :)

Has anyone any information if a 3 meter USB and Displayport cable adds significant latency? As I sad I am not a professional gamer but I also don not want my mouse lagging 2 seconds behind when I move it  :)

There shouldn't be any kind of latency until way over 10 meters of cable.
