Hello all, Couple days ago I posted about a 880m vs a 970m, and I got persuaded into the 970m sager. But Now i was looking a bit more and found on Xoticpc, there force laptop(MSI GT72 just nonbranded) with a 980m. I can link the laptops down below from different sources, Xoticpc is switching servers, so there website is down.

As for the Sager, I'm liking the Sager NP8677, It has a 970m, the new skylake CPU, DDR4, and I'll also upgrade the screen too the IPS WITH G-sync.

The Force laptop, has a 980m, But 4th gen i7, Does not have ddr4, and will not have a IPS screen or g-sync.

Forcehttp://www.amazon.com/MSI-GT72-Dominator-214-17-3-Inch-Laptop/dp/B00O4ORZZQ

(It will come without the SSD and OS, and will come with a 980m instead. Xoticpc's Price of $1395)

Sager: http://www.sagernotebook.com/Notebook-NP8677.html

(It will come without a OS, Total with screen upgrade - Xoticpc's price of $1350.)

I was curious on opinions from other people on what I should go for? I'm leaning for the sager. But wanted to see what other people have to say.

a 980m is close to an actual 970

nvm the other features out weigh the difference in gpu

The 980 is quite a bit more powerful than the 970 (you can also get laptops with a full desktop GTX 980 inside now too)

but it really depends what you need, and what you want to spend...and if you find the compromises worth it (probably not)

Get the Sager. At least it would not break your back as quickly if you want to bring it to places.

Ahh thank you all for the replies, Seems the majority of this thread is basically my head right now... 980m is a beast of a GPU, but the 970m has a better screen, and is more mobile.. I'm on the edge because the 980m would last a lot longer then the 970m, but the 970m has a better package.. BAHH.

Get the Sager, 970M or 980M will not matter so much in a 1080p screen, and the difference between IPS + G sync and TN is like day and night, IPS is so much better

I would go with the rebranded GT72. It's got a better cooling system and the GPU is socketed. For that budget, you're basically set. GT72 is among the best of the laptops that have soldered CPUs still. The problem is that it's usually expensive as all fuck most of the time, and a bit harder to open/clean/maintain. But it definitely is a better machine performance-wise.

The reason I don't recommend the GT72 normally is because for the price of a solidly decked-out one, you can get the desktop CPU using models from Clevo rebranders. So... pointless to even consider such a crippled-on-the-CPU machine.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

So are you are recommending the gt72 rebrand over the sager, based on upgradability?

Upgradeability, cooling, and general build quality. It's not that the P6xxRx machines are bad, but they're not as good as the GT72. The P7xxDM and P870DM make the GT72 look like a toy, but they're more expensive than what you're getting that specific GT72 for. The GT72's normal selling point is in the price range of the P7xxDM and P870DM machines, which is why you never hear me recommend it, because it's worthless at that price point. At the price of the P6xxRx models, then it's probably the most worthwhile machine.

Ahhh gotcha, Understand. Hmm, Still a very hard debate for me. The GT72 is a huge laptop... But I kinda want that GPU performance.. Just incase. Does the 4710HQ vs the 6700HQ make a huge difference?

4710HQ is a faster CPU all things considered. Skylake's IPC benefit doesn't help the 200MHz less clockspeed going from a 4710HQ to a 6700HQ.

If the size is too large, the P6xxRE is not a bad machine by any stretch.
