Wait, isn't that just this?

-snip-

More or less... This one is the ghetto, "I'm bored and I don't know what to do with my time" version...

You won't be using the CRT monitor itself... just the casing/housing/whatever you call it and you build inside it...

This was one of my indefinitely postponed projects due to a critical lack of funds...

I guess.  Actually, I wonder what it would look like to have an LCD panel in a CRT housing... they are usually if not always curved and covered with glass so that might look really weird... at least if it's not done really well

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I sold the 17" flat screen CRT that I was supposed to use...

There are some flat screen CRTs out there... some of them might still be working...

The plan was to place the LCD panel behind the front glass...

well if it's flat I guess... I actually really want an LCD with glass on it for cleaning purposes... so much easier, and more durable!

Try visiting your local scrap yard or used electronics shop and see what you can find... if the screen is flat and the glass is not broken and not fixed to the picture tube, it should be useful for the project...

Good idea, but I think that's too ghetto for me :)  That said I'd love to see pics if someone wants to try it!

For learning coding go to codecademy.com and do the python or java course. It's a really good website for getting started and you can do the tutorials at whatever pace you like.

I like that site, but I just dont have the drive to do it sometimes. All ive learned is if/else statements.

I built a tic tac toe program with AI that I eventually couldn't beat using not a hell of a lot more than that
