Oh dilemma. So I'm out to buy a monitor because my old 1920x1200 one is dying ever so slowly, and as the title says, I'm super torn between the Acer G257HU smidpx, and the LG 29UM67.

It basically boils down to 2560x1080 against 2560x1440. Is the extra width worth the loss of vertical space? Which monitor would you guys recommend?

I'll be using the screen for gaming, plus I work as a translator, so I open up tons of crap, and do tend to view documents side by side, so the extra horizontal space would be pretty useful, but so would be the extra vertical space. Halp? D:

2560x1080 has the same number of horizontal pixels as 2560x1440 (same width).  No vertical space lost with the 2560x1440.

Edit:  Oh, you meant actual size.  Everything will just look smaller.

I find going from dual 1920x1080 to 3440x1440 is very helpful in term of seeing longer documents. The extra 320 vertical pixel is worth it.

I don't find going from 1920x2 to 3440 is a downgrade because I can put document closer to the center of the screen and read it normally.

Oh yeah, if it was 3440x1440 it would've been a no brainer from the get go, but this is 2560x1080. Wish I could afford a 3440x1440 one now, but I'm in a third world country and one of those things falls a little bit out of my budget, lol.

stupidhuman's point makes perfect sense, though, and makes me feel, in fact, like a stupid human for not having realized right away, lol. 1440p it is. It's even cheaper, too. .-.
