Duel Boot or Run VM

Go to solution Solved by danomicar,

Dual boot is the way to go! I've been messing around with linux myself over the past year or so and found it was so much easier to just partition my drive. VMware is really just if you want to check out linux. If you're really serious in using it for more than just kicks, dual boot.

I am planning on switching to Linux; however, I will be retaining a copy of windows for gaming. The windows OS will get its own hard drive.

I am trying to decide whether to duel boot or run Windows in a VM. The VM sounds good, but I fear it will be more error prone. Is this a valid concern?

This PC will have very high end hardware if that's a concern. Something like the new intel six core extreme and 2x 980ti in sli.

Bonus Points: Good VM app for linux?

if you want to game on windows, but want linux to run on the hardware - dualboot.

if you want to game on wnindows, but want to dabble a bit in the world of linux - put virtualbox on your window install.

I'd suggest the opposite of what this person has said.  Mostly because it feels counterproductive to remain in Windows if you want to use Linux and Windows for gaming.

VMware is one that I've heard about and from what little I know, Virtualization, (And Multi-seating) is significantly easier on Linux than Windows.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

the issue is gaming in a VM is a pain - all the news about gpu passtrough is great, but it barely works and is very buggy in most cases.

Agreed, Dual boot if you're gaming.  Or get a digital ocean server and play around with the command line until you're comfortable with it.

the way i got into linux is by tossing it onto an old - barely functional machine i dumpster dived.

the thing was that unreliable it just stacked up errors as it ran, so most of my time on the machine was spent fixing what the horrible hardware was breaking.
