Hey guys,

I have got a question and I was wondering if this community could help me out.

to start of my current specs are:

CPU: AMD fx-8350 4.0ghz + Corsair H100i

MOBO: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0

Gpu: asus gtx 770 DirectCu II OC 2GB

RAM: Corsair vengence 8gb (2x4gb)

HDD: WD blue 1tb

SSD: samsung 840 evo 128gb

PSU: Corsair RM750

and a dual 1080p monitor setup

So now that a friend of mine is upgrading his GPU and he happened to have the exact same GPU as I do, I can buy his for a cheap price.

But since those are only 2GB cards, I was wondering if it would be worth it. and if yeah how long should I be able to run that setup without having issues with the vRam?

It is like or I buy this one now for a good price or i wait 1-2 years and upgrade to a 900 series or something like that.

Also what is the advantage of not running SLI with 2 GPU's? I read it here quite a lot but where is it used for.

thanks in advance,

bart

I had dual 670s back in the day and if I'm not mistaken the 770 is basically a 680.

Dual 680s aren't slow by any means so I'd say go for it if the price is right!

PSU will be tight with the FX but it's manageable.

The dual 770's could get you by for a few more years before you start having serious vram problems, so if that 2-3 years of no major problems seems fine with you, then go for it.

If you think you're going to want to upgrade in 2 years or less, then you might still go for it, but if you want to get more time than that out of them, then your best bet is probably to just save more money now, and in a handful on months get something far better than what you have now, like a 390.

yeah the price is less than half as i bought mine originaly for. He even went lower than i was expecting to give. :D

PSU will be tight with the FX but it's manageable.

Should be good, did some research and calculating, so I should have plenty of PSU. tnx

yeah that was what I was asking. It is like if I don't take this opportunity, I might upgrade in less than a year. If I do take it can I push that to atleast 2 years. So no those 2-3 years of no major problems is fine with me. that is what I'm going for.

I wasn't aware of that, so thanks for mentioning. Anyway it is not going to influence my decision bc I've never had any heat problems since I built my pc which is about a year ago :D. My room is verry cold verry often xD.

thanks for the replies guys, really appriciate it.

Bart

my room is quite cold as well at night, under load my top gpu gets about 83 degrees. bottom one about 68-70. my gpus recycle air out into the case so idk how it compares to yours. but even in a cold environment, it wont change that much.

thanks for the replies guys.

I got to try the card before buying it, and I found out that SLI is a pain. Some games even run worse, and others the performance gain is not something that stands out.

I don't know if I'm doing someting wrong but I don't think so. My conclusion is that I am better of playing with one card bc everything works properly then. And ill probably upgrade to a 980 in about a year or something.

it was expected ofcourse, everyone recomends a single card so yeah. thanks atleast.

regards,

Bart

what i believe the issue you have encountered is stuttering when the frame rates drop to single digits levels during intense gameplay and shoot back up

also the min fps you are getting is really horrible till the point it gets really annoying.

your system is fine with a single GPU

but def not dual GPUs

you still fine with the GTX980

OC will help improve the min fps

but be prepared to change the platform when the time comes.

You don't need to, but you'll be bottlenecked in some games. And might not be able to achieve fps that other peeps are getting. The choice is yours.
