I've heard pretty good things about the Audio-Technica ATH A500X and AD500X. from what i can gather they're not as base heavy as the majority of headphones. (that is assuming the $150 does not include the modmic)

Go with HD518 lower price and better and then use a mod mic.

I own HD518s and love them so much that I modded them. They wouldn't work as well as the Phillips for the V-Moda which makes more sense IMO.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

That's right, forgot that Philips hates removable pads. Can you describe what was better about the sound siggy?

The 518s has deep resonant bass, dipped mids and higher than average highs. Philips have lower more subdued bass and lower high end with a strong mid.

What are some headphones that have good sound quality? I'm planning on getting a modmic.

anything under $150 Canadian

Personally, I'd recommend only the best: Beets by Dre

OK but seriously, this is going to sound silly and out of place, but my recommendation is for comfort if they're to be used more than 2 hours straight.

For this reason, I'd suggest something from Steelseries in their high end lineup. Personally, I love the 9H Headset even though it has a Mic and you're getting a Mod Mic.

Alternatively, others have made their case in their posts and Audio-Technica and Sennheiser are both other options. To be honest, I've tried so many pairs of Sennheisers that there really isn't a best option. It's more of what you personally like from their lineup in terms of comfort / quality / price / etc.

I do have one other recommendation if you want them for the purpose of games and music while on-the-go / travelling: BOSE SoundTrue Around-Ear headphones.

Hear me out: I was skeptical when my employer (at the time) started selling them, you know, because of the BOSE brand stereotypes.

When the demo units came into the store though, I was amazed at their build [and sound] quality even though their super-lightweight and portable.

The day I was allowed to wear them in our computer repair center for my 8 hour shift they never once became uncomfortable.

Staples still has some of the ?older? models being cleared out around $120 CAD, but of course color will vary per store.

And no, I don't work there anymore, so I'm not just "trying to advertise" here either.
