Sup folks. My power supply is an Antec 630W and I've had it for about two years. Just about two minutes ago it started screaming (a loud buzzing sound that almost sounded like vibration-- didn't sound like coil whine), before it stopped. Nothing on my compy freezed up, and I don't smell burning electronics, but I'm guessing this means I should def go look for a new PSU.

right?

Were you having a brown out when it happened?

I would. Better safe than sorry. Two years sounds pretty normal for my PSUs before they die/scare me.

Not sure what a brown out is, but nothing was different at the time. It just started screaming.

SINCE IM ON THE TOPIC. What can you folks recommend for a power supply sub $100 then.

Anything SeaSonic, XFX, EVGA's GS/G2/P2/B2

Buzzing sounds very worrying, not worth debating if it's a good time or not. Better replacing a 2yo PSU than having to replace your entire system. Waaaaaay cheaper!

Yea, I've had friends replace entire systems because of a bad PSU/failure.

Trusting a failing power supply is gonna lead to a bad time. I remember casually enjoying a Skype call and suddenly CRACK POP and really bad burnt electronic smell shortly after. Wasn't fun overnighting a PSU off Amazon because mine died without much warning!

what, when PSU's pop they take the system with it?

They can. A PSU on its last legs may not be able to keep a steady/consistent power delivery to the components. All the components in a PC are super sensitive as well. I've had a PSU kill a RAM controller on a mobo. Fried my RAM and my CPU with flames on the RAM controller.
