Regarding Magnetic Hard Disk Partitioning

Hello,
I would like to know whether partitioning my laptop hard disk(magnetic) will be better or merging together to form a single drive/partition will be better for my hard disk life and performance.Also please let me know technical explanation regarding this issue.Is this applicable to external Hard disks also?(magnetic).Please let me know as soon as possible.

Partitioning is not a physical process and so has no physical effects on the hard drive. It is only a change in the way the computer presents the organization of the disk to software, for management purposes.

 

It can be done on any storage device, internal or external.
