 I was wondering, how does a desktop 6850 compare to a laptop 850M? Just curious. IIRC the 6850 is about the same as a 7770 in terms of performance.

From what I can find, the 850m is slightly better.  The 6850 is about the same performance as a GTX 560, and that is the same performance as a Iris Pro 6200.  Did a search and 850m was slightly better than Iris Pro 6200, so by comparison should be better than the 6850 as well.

Yep - between the 6850 and 6870 - a mild OC on a 6850 should reach it I believe.
