Hi,

I have been using OCZ Trion 100 480GB for my homeuse rig for around 2 months now. Before this happenes i have been leaving my system on for 5 days.

This morning i woke up and found that my conputer is missing a boot device, so i checked the BIOS and my Trion 100 isnt in my device list. I tried switching to other sata ports and nothing happens.

Are there anyways in which i could fix this problem? As i always have to use this computer for work.

Thanks in advance

Vertex2 was about 2-3 years old i think?

EDIT: now that i think on it, my Crucial M4 did the same though i was able to recover that one. Something with the TGC (or something) went wrong and it went in a sort of lockdown mode.

But that required one of those Sata->USB adapters and the correct programm to recover it. Which came with the crucial disks luckily.

I think my SSD died already, i tried using the USB docking, and it doesn't response.

So i guess i have to go make a claim.

I still cant believe that SSD has so short lifespan conpare to the regular HDD :(

Yeah well, n=1 is not really a high enough samplevalue to conclude anything statistically relevant. It's called bad luck ;)

The Vertex2 was notorious for firmware bricks.  Mine bricked itself after a few months.  OCZ sorted that out when they went to the Vertex3 and Agility3.

My own Agility3 has 16k hours and more than 11TB of writes, and no issues so far.  Had a pair of Vertex4s in RAID 0 for over 10k hours and both survived without a problem.  So I can't complain about the reliability of more modern OCZ SSDs.

AFAIK there's no recovering an SSD, Tangtawan.  Consider the data lost.

As for SSD life compared to HDD, normally an SSD lasts way longer than an HDD, but you can always have bad luck.  Sounds like that's the case here.  If you didn't have a backup of your data, now would be a good time to think about a backup strategy so you can avoid data loss in the future.

The chance of bad luck is quite high though, from what me and my friend experienced the chance of SSD dying witin the first 6 months are very high. I work in Thailand's IT Website and all the rigs in my office has been running on SSDs.

After my SSD died i ask bunch of my co-workers about their experiences.

My friend brought a Zotac SSD, used it for a month and it suddenly went MIA like mine.

The other one uses Setakings, and it died within the first week.

For video editing machine, the rig has killed 2 SSDs already, the OCZ Vector and a OCZ Vertex.

Samsung 850 Evo also has died before we actually could finish the review.

However, this OCZ Trion is a first SSD that died in my hand. As for my testbed, i use the AMD R7 SSD (OCZ made) and it has been tortured a lot and still alive. My other friend also has been using very old OCZ 40GB SSD for years leaving his pc on 24/7 and its still working.

I brought this Trion 100 since OCZ claimed that since it has been taken over by Toshiba, this trion 100 uses toshiba's technology and it has been passing through most of the torture test and 101 ways to kill ur SSD test lol. Well i actually believed what they said and brought it, the luck wasnt on my side.

Could it be because the electricity in my country (Thailand) sucks? There are many complaints that SSD died before the first 6 months of usage, while there has been almost no complaints about mechanical HDDs. Many people has been facing the same issue as me, as far as im concerned.

Fortunately, i did not mind losing my data though, as the SSD is only used for OS and Game directory, the save files and works are stored (or back up) in HDD. Thanks for concerning :)

I'm no engineer, but I see no reason why the local electricity would be responsible. The SSD gets its voltage from the PSU, which should take care of any irregularities.

There was a brownout everytime it rains though.

I just got the new OCZ Trion today, OCZ dealer in thailand works pretty quick. Hope it wont happen again lol.
