Hey guys,

My parents just re-did their basement, and now we need a TV for the media side.

What are your thoughts about sizes, features, brands, models etc?

Requirements

The TV is going to be wall mounted so curved ones are probably out

The size is probably going to be 65"+

NO PROJECTORS

4k is wanted

3D is unnecessary

Premium brands preferred (Samsung > off brand)

It will be hooked up to a 5.1 audio receiver

Price-wise my father is very flexible when it comes to paying for a better brand. $2000 LG or Sony is better than $1000 "alternative brand"

The LG 65EF9500 is a flat UHD OLED, the only non curved UHD OLED on the market AFAIK (besides 55" version) . It's $5,000 USD but it's pretty much the best TV you can buy without spending $10,000+.

$10,000 is out, $5,000 might also be out, but I will take a look at that one too.

idk much about 4k tv prices as I've been waiting til next year til they drop in prices further, plus i'd like to get that MiTV 2 from Xiaomi, it's like 48 inch, super thin and 650 but not available to the US by default. they had to put a soundbay with it to make it so thin. idk maybe once I start looking for one myself, I will realize the quality isnt that good or something, but it's still a great value assuming you can find one. I believe it has Android TV although that's what I came in here to mention. TV manufacturers are REALLY pushing their Android OS based TVs, but at the end of the day  a TV iis just a display. I would personally buy a SHIELD TV (you can get the 16GB one for 199 and get the remote (which really does make it easier to use) for 25 bucks if Amazon is still doing -25 off witht he purchase of the console and remote at the same time, the only reason I'd get another controller is if you REALLY like it (it's bulky as hell and you can use a DS4/XB1 Controller and besides the lack of headset support and volume control, other controllers are better to use (you can still use your headphone via the remote though, you just have to charge it more often.

The great thing about SHIELD TV vs. Android TVs is the fact that if a Tegra X2 chip or something comes out, you can replace the console rather than the entire TV.
