Buying a Laptop

so recently i've been asked by numerous people for me to recommend them a laptop, and its been pretty easy cause their budgets are £1500 or around there. What's made it easier is the fact that they would need a trusty laptop, and in my eyes that's apple. So my girlfriend got an air, and her best friend got a pro under my recommendation. Both of these cost £1500 each.

 

My girlfriend then presents me with another friend. this friend only has a budget of around £350. (if you're going to suggest anything, please make sure you're using british sites as USA is normally cheaper then UK despite the exchange rate.)

 

Now she doesn't want a netbook, but something to work on and take notes (so full sized keyboard would be a plus), and being a girl, nice aesthetics. 

 

i'm going to be searching on amazon right now, but im posting this to speed up the process.

looks good, however i'd prefer too, for my reputations sake (lol i know! what reputation xD) that I'd rather not get her a refurbished and thats an american site, she needs a uk keyboard and preferably a uk website to match.

Umm to take notes try to get like a ultrabook or like slim laptops so easy to move around, You don't need much space for just taking notes

sometimes companies have a reputation for a reason lol :p maybe you got the 1/1000 laptop that does well!

yeah, i'd like to go towards the ultrabook market, but honestly speaking, at the £350 budget ($400 after exchange and then taking note of how much cheaper things in the US are), it's going to be hard to get an ultrabook for that price. if you have any suggestions, please post

Lenovos are generally pretty good. Don't know much about this one though. At that price point it seems you mostly get the same laptop from all companies out there.

chromebooks are out of the quesiton because the friend of which I'm recommending the laptop too is so technologically illiterate that she probably wouldn't understand how the whole system works. and with low storage onboard, having things on the cloud would just be another layer of confusion

I'll be honest.

 

A friend of mine set herself a budget of 400GBP too. I got her a laptop that suited her requirements best. Barely a month later, she whines to me about it being slow, when I warned her a 400GBP laptop will not last long, especially with her requirements (Minecraft and Runescape), and only increasing the budget will result in a more satisfactory laptop. I later found out she wanted to play Far Cry 3 on it ...

 

Provided her current requirements DO NOT change, the ASUS above should be a good option. Emphasis on DO NOT. The instant she starts to use it for something beyond its capabilities, cue long list of complaints.

 

You're also not going to get a decent ultrabook at that price point. Definitely not convertible ones with touch input.
