Custom ROM that takes up less space?

My dads Moto G 8GB is running out of space and I'm wondering if there is a custom ROM someone makes that's more space efficient than the stock motorola ROM? If not, would AOSP take up less space?

Run any CM12 based rom (mostly) that is mainly stock cm and you should be fine.

Also use a nano or pico gapps to make for more of the apps that you might want.

Also remember that you can get a micro usb to micro sd card adapter and keep some files on a it while not charging and keep it on a key-chain when charging

I don't think so. Motorola uses more or less stock Android, which is pretty light. You could see if the Slim stuff has moved on from SlimKat by now, but I doubt there will be a big difference.

can you try to move stuff over to an SD card or a cloud based solution? Or has Motorola removed the SD slot on the g?
