So I've been looking in to doing a fresh install of windows 10 pro from a disk I have, and was wondering if there was a way to get my files saved into a windows.old file, instead of being deleted.

Unfortunately full back-up is not an option due to having 6  terabytes of data on my main hdd.

Any help is much appreciated. :)

You have 6TB of data that you can't live without, and you have no backup, making you, sensitive from HDD mechanical failure which is pretty high.

That should be your biggest concern right now. Not, how to do a fresh install.

Assuming you can, for the sakes of argumentation, because you can't, to answer your question that is, it will be one heck of a lengthly install. Might take a day or even two depending on the speed of your HDD, and that is all assuming that your HDD doesn't fail on you with the intensive task it will need to do for over 24h with a CONSUMER grade drive.

My recommendation, delete what you don't need. I highly doubt that all 6TB of data is actually important, and you don't need to backup the internet. :)

I totally agree.  When you buy storage, you NEED to buy twice that amount in AT LEAST 2 different mediums.  For example, I have my desktop as well as a 2TB NAS as well as 2TB of One Drive storage.

PLEASE for everything that is good, get something to back your data up.  Clean installing the OS is ALWAYS a option and should ALWAYS be a high priority.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Also, if you have so much data, why not partition your HDD. One for the OS, and the other for all your data/programs. While a backup is still highly recomended, at least when you re-install Windows, you can only format C:\ and you data is safe.

I mean what happens if you have a virus? Malware? Anti-viruses and Anti-malware is about preventions, They'll remove an installed infection, but they won't fix modified system files, opening you to large security holes.
