RAM maxes out at 4GB inserted and 3GB recognized by the EFI. CPU should not be switched out as it's a Core 2 Duo 2.16, the very best mobile Core 2 Duo of that socket. I put an SSD in my stepdad's yesterday and it made enough of a difference to justify buying it but not when you could just buy a new laptop.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

I'm getting the Laptop for $20, so it's a steal. Also it's a Core Duo, Not Core2, what's the Socket so I can find more CPU's?

it's probably soldered to the motherboard. upgrade the RAM and use it how it is, or buy it and turn around and sell it.

If it's a regular Core 2 then you're still stuck with that. The coolers on those laptops barely kept the CPUs cool and if there was a more powerful CPU in them they would likely catch fire. Our Macbook Pro gets to 97C under load on the Core 2 Duo and over 110C on the GPU. The coolers *cannot* handle more.

According to this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9a0hIPdVmc Socket PGA478 CPUs are compatible with Socket PPGA478. Which means I can put in a 2.53Ghz Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 into this laptop. Is there a way to go around the EFI issue?

OSX hated general hardware changes so I would honestly just not. It's not like you're going to get past the OS barrier of Snow Leopard/Lion (can't remember which) or anything like that

Would it work with Windows?
