Help please. I just bought a Asus Maximus VIII Hero motherboard and am going to be upgrading my storage solution in the very near future, but I don't quite know if this will work.

Maximus VIII hero M.2

Samsung 850 EVO M.2

I do see that the Maximus VIII Hero supports a 2280 M.2 SSD. However, I would like to get the Samsung 850 or possibly 950 M.2. However, after physically looking at the connectors on Newegg.com, I am not sure if this will work.

Anyone know about M.2s and know if this will work. (the top small piece is the part that scares me)

Oh thats neat. It supports the 3 standard M.2 sizes. I don't think thats normally the case.

Edit: If no-one gives you a solid answer in 2 hours I'll open my laptop and tell you. It has an M.2 in it so we shall discover the answer, maybe

It will work. M.2 is a standard that is well controlled and followed by motherboard makers. There is a screw you will have to remove and reapply depending on the m.2 size.

Someone should correct me if I'm wrong, but the Maximus VIII has an M-Key connector and the 850 Evo, (maybe Pro too), are M&B key, so I'd think you'd be alright. If you're questioning the physical size, that'll definitely be fine.
