IBM Terminator kit

Go to solution Solved by Stefan1024,

Hi,

I am not sure I put this topic in the right section but here it goes. I found this small package (IBM Terminator kit) in my firm among the stuff that are going to be thrown away and I was wondering what is it used for. Can anyone here tell me what do you use this for.

On the paper that was in the bag it only said that it has to be pluged in the unused port of the last KCO(KVM conversion option) or UCO(USB conversion option) in a chain to ensure proper operation of the console switches and servers.

What does that thing do?

You need a proper termination on every end of a high speed transmittion line. When you have a point-to-point connection, they are build into the device.

But if you route your own bus and dasy-chain some devices you have to add a termination.

It's only a resistor of a well defined value.

EDIT: it prevents signal refelction at the end of the line.

Tnx for the info :)
