Headphone Microphone not working

Hi all!

It might not work depending on the hardware of the audio ports

Hi all!

I have a headphone with mic that terminates in one jack, ie like a mobile phone earphones. Yesterday, i tried to plug in my headphones into my desktop which has two audio ports. When I plugged it into the headphone port, it works and sound comes through. But when I plug it into the microphone port, it does not work. I tried testing it with Skype and sound recorder. As my motherboard is Asus, it comes with Asus SupremeFX utility which my microphone did register and show up. However, no matter what I tried to do, my microphone just did not work. I installed the latest drivers from Asus website and my microphone is enabled in sound manager. To ensure that my mic was working, I plugged my headphones into my laptop and it worked fine. Running Windows 8.1 with newest audio drivers. Thanks to everyone for helping and reading!

ShadowCaptain hit it on the head! What you need to make your headset work is this:

This is an adapter for the headset to take the 4 pole male headset jack and split it up for use on your jacks for the mic and headphone as your motherboard requires. AFAIK all retail motherboards require a 3 pole jack. Some of the really old ones require a 2 pole jack. (Mono audio)

I found the item here: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Headset-with-Mic-Converter-Cable-4-Pole-3-5mm-Socket-to-2x-3-5mm-Plugs-007636-/381212938878?hash=item58c20fd27e
