ok, crazy hypothetical question...

Go to solution Solved by typographie,

Could a 4-way SLI'd gtx 980ti with a custom loop do 4k surround monitors?

It really depends on the game. Three- and four-way SLI are incredibly inconsistent. Some games you get great scaling, and sometimes it's no faster than two cards.

Could a 4-way SLI'd gtx 980ti with a custom loop do 4k surround monitors? just curious, and also, what motherboard would you recomend?

If 4 Titan X's have a hard time doing it, then 980's will do worse.

Plus, micro stuttering at that point will make your life miserable, not worth it.

I wouldn't recommend 4-way SLI to anyone. It's not really stable.

Hypothetically, if the 4 980s were powered by a sketchy power supply, they'd cause a fire and you'd have to evacuate your house. You'd then have the best surround setup at the best possible resolution - the real world!

You can run 4k sourround with 3 980tis, but youre gonna have to use fxaa, disable tesselation, ambient occlusion, depth of field and maybe some other advanced options to get good framerates in some games.

3 980 tis in sourround should be about equivalent to 1 regular 980 in 4k.
