Please. Stick with Shadowplay. AMD DVR is hell to work with. Audio often goes out of sync with the video and the quality is overall better on Shadowplay. Personal experience of hell with AMD DVR. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that AMD will release a new recording software that's as good as Shadowplay.

Honestly, if you're thinking of buying the gtx 980, just go with the gtx 970. Its not as expensive and performs pretty much the same as the 980 does. If you ARE willing to spend a little more cash, go with the GTX 980 TI. Don't waste money or time waiting for the 980. Its performance is slightly better than the 970 but not worth the extra $130. In my opinion, you're better off going for either the 970 or the 980TI.

OBS is a bit more open and configurable, and you can use the same codec that Shadowplay uses in OBS, so you get the same performance benefits from Shadowplay.

Speaking of which, there is an unofficial branch of OBS that uses AMD's VCE, which is the equivalent to NVENC, and it works fine for me, check it out:

Just set the encoder to NVENC in OBS, and select a preset.  I wouldn't change anything else.

It's not vice versa, it the same thing, except with VCE.

Stutter and frame drops are issue independent of GPU performance (CPU and Internet connection, respectively)
