So a few months back the motherboard on my pre-made pc broke, so I bought a new one as well as a new CPU, and I'm a bit confused as to what to do. So first off, will I still have my copy of Windows 8, or will I have to use Ubuntu or something like that? Because I'm still going to be using the same HDD with all the windows files on it. Next, do I put in my motherboard drivers (the disc that came with it) in before I start, or after I set up my bios? I'm new to the whole building a pc from more or less scratch so... Thank you!

As I understand your all PC components are working and due to failure you bought a new motherboard with it a new CPU. In this case all you need to do is to change the previous components with new ones. If all the hardware is compatible you will be set just by plugging all the old stuff to the new stuff.

If you want to update the bios or what. Do that after initial boot to Windows.

All the parts are all in, and I'm just waiting to start it up, so I will still have my copy of windows? Even though it was a pre-built pc from BestBuy?

you will most likely loose your windows license, with prebuilt pcs the license gets tied to the mobo. that being said you can probably contact the pc manufacturer let them know what happened and see if they will issue a new key, or if ms will do the same thing. worst case scenario you can get a cheap cd key on reddit or g2a.
