My core 2 quad rig is old and out of date. The Q8300 and GTX 560 just can't game as well as i'd like, even at 1366x768. I'm going to have to upgrade sometime soon, so i might as well get something planned.

Budget: $500 USD shipping to north Idaho. Of note, i only trust Amazon, Newegg, and NCIX US as well as the product manufacturer for stores to buy from. I also don't want rebates factored into price, because i forget i have them and spend full price anyway.

Aim: I would like to play and record (and depending on my internet connection in the future, live-stream) games like Insurgency, Battlefield 3, MGSV, Dark Souls 2 SotFS, Fallout 4, and i'd also like to record music. My current resolution is 1366x768, but i'll upgrade to a higher res monitor at a later date

Monitors:  Don't worry about this

Peripherals: If you can find a cheap cherry or kailh blue keyboard that is backlit in a color other than red or green, then throw it in, but otherwise don't worry.

Why: My CPU came out when i was in middle school and i'm now in college....i think that should be reason enough

Bout' as good as it gets for 500$. Nice build with good components and good performance. I would save for a nicer keyboard and mouse like a k70, the build quality is insane.

Edit: and if you're gaming at 1336x768 you'll have no problem destroying games with the 950- you can even use NVIDIA DSR to play less demanding games at higher resolutions!

Tbh, for now i would get a new, decent PSU (EVGA G2/Seasonic/XFX) of 650/750W, and an R9 390. With the left over cash after getting a keyboard which tickles your fancy, put it towards a decent i5, mobo + 8GB ram later on. Or even a low end Xeon like the  Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3, since it has hyperthreading which will help with streaming.

I'd recommend you save up a bit more and shoot for an 8320e + 380 build, you're going to end up CPU bound in some games without some overclocking, but otherwise it'll beat out an i5 for streaming and rendering.

Just no. Your advice is bad, your suggested hardware is bad, and you should feel bad.

aside from the PSU and the E variant of the CPU, i don't see a problem

FX CPU, crud motherboard, and that PSU is dildos.

It's only a little more for a Xeon E3-1231 V3 build which will whip the FX8320 in performance.

Nigga pls, i had been running exclusively AMD cpu's until this year. From AMD Athlon X64's until my last AMD chip - the Phenom II 965. So if anything i'm more of an AMD fanboy.

Isn't the xeon like 70 dollars more? If CPU boss is anything to go buy the mutli-core performane isn't that far off, the single core is of course slower though, but if you're going to be streaming on a lower budget the 8320e is probably your best choice.

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Xeon-E3-1231-v3-vs-AMD-FX-8320

That motherboard is fairly solid and cheap, it's easily the best Micro ATX AM3+ board

Otherwise the PSU had decent reviews on PC part picker, there's probably something better but the budget didn't really allow for that.

Swapped it out for a better reviewed one on newegg

CPU Boss is absolute shite for comparing hardware. That xeon i linked = 4 cores, 8 threads. It will beat the FX8320 in pretty much everything.

Well how's cinebench?

From this video the Xeon 1231 v3 scored 692, while doing screen recording

https://youtu.be/uTJEj-qwTog?t=65

And from this forum post an 8350 scored 725, so the 8320e would be a bit slower. but clearly costs a fair ammount less

Again, you post something useless - a synthetic benchmark.

Here is a thread comparing a Xeon to FX for streaming, worth a read - http://www.overclock.net/t/1400449/amd-fx-8350-vs-intel-xeon-e3-1230-v2-for-a-gamer-who-streams

Btw, the Xeon E3-1231V3 is basically an i7 4770. Using shitty cpuboss, look -

It's faster sure, but it's only going to give you 20-30% more performance at best, especially in games that don't require that fast a CPU.

The Xeon 1231v3 is a bit too much for the budget, maybe if it was 600-700 it would fit better.
