I have an MSI h97 PC-Mate.

 

In the BIOS it looks as if I could overclock my CPU if I had an unlocked CPU, but I just wanted to check with you guys.

 

I might water cool soon.

 

Yes. Just not as effectively as on a Z or X series board. You'll also want an unlocked CPU for that or you'll be limited to just increasing the FSB.

If the CPU ends in a K, then you can overclock it since it's unlocked. You would ideally overclock on a z97 mobo. Also, water cooling can lead to lower temps but that doesn't mean that you can overclock more.

No. No point in watercooling a locked CPU imo.

 

I know. I was asking if I could overclock if I had an unlocked CPU, which I know I don't.

 

I'm thinking of selling my 4460 and getting a 4790k
