Ok, to be fair, that dude dropped it while attempting to use the vice method to de-lid his CPU.

You have the 3570K correct? If you really are having an issue with a CPU dying, you should be able to mitigate the problem (at least temporarily) by down-clocking the CPU. Try dropping it to 2.5Ghz and see if it is actually more stable. If so, either motherboard or CPU could be dying. If not, probably the motherboard.
