Asus PG279Q or ASUS PG348Q Ultrawide

BobTheBlowfish

Even though both monitors aren't out yet, I want the LTT community input on which to get.

Specs:

Asus PG279Q

27" IPS, 165Hz, 2560 x 1440, 4Ms (GTG), G-Sync, Speakers,

 ASUS PG348Q

34” IPS, 144Hz, 3440 x 1440, G-Sync.

Which one would you choose?

I only have a GTX 970, but I plan in the future to get either a GTX 1080Ti or GTX 1180 (or whatever they are called in the future).

PG348Q.  And using a 1080ti for 1440p doesn't make sense. :D

I'd go wide, however I have a lot of use for a wide screen.

You may not.

Keep in mind you only get 100hz from the ultrawide, so if you play a lot of CS or other games competitively you might do better on the other panel.

If you're just an average gamer with an above average budget, get the ultrawide as long as your games support the aspect ratio. There are some that don't.

The 21:9 makes sense if you love non-competitive gaming. I suggest getting an upgrade from the 970. You're looking at a 980/390x minimum for that monitor.

The 390x would get rid of one of the main draws of the monitor.

I think his humor went completely over your head :) (To run this monitor you need a GTX 1440 Ti, so you gotta wait for it)

Guys you keep forgetting this is a G-sync monitor; the hertz will be caped and linked on a 1:1 ratio to whatever FPS he is outputting with his hardware... Sadly right now on most eye candy games, there isn't anything that will output steady 100hz at this resolution with high/max settings. THERE is some stuff averaging 50 but thats about it... Maybe when PASCAL card comes out with HBM the 34" IPS 100hz G-sync dilemma will be solved.
