anybody have experience using blank keycaps with backlighting and how well it shines through. and if it doesnt is there any way to mod it to increase how much it would shine through ?

It linda lights them up depending on the thickness and color of teh plastic and how bright the LEDs are. If its thick black you only may get glowing around the base.

In my experience, PBT tends to have the most shine-through, particularly the thin stuff. Thick PBT tends to have a little bit of a subtle glow through with a nice underglow effect.

is there any way to mod keycaps to get the light to shine through better ? such as maybe sanding down the keycap from the underside to get light to shine through better or would it ruin the stability of the keycap itself ?

no not really.

I mean, you could just get backlit caps...
