I got a new computer about a month and a half ago, and ever since I got it my power (only in my room) shuts off. I've had it go 2 days of intense gaming ONCE without issues and then sometimes after only a few minutes after boot up, the power will go off. I moved the computer to another room to see if it was the outlet and the power also went out in that room. I have a Gold 80+ rated PSU and a surge protector but i'm still worried about the computer as it's suffered a power outage probably 50+ times already. It's also very annoying when i'm in an online match or in the middle of Shadow of Mordor only to lose my hour worth of data due to a power outage. Thanks in advance.

Its odd that it does it when browsing the web as well...

Is the power cabeling in the house old? I had only one power cable coming into my room, so if i had things like my leds attached to it, the power spike when it turns on would trip the fuse.

Is the wiring in your home old is sounds like you have overloaded circuits in your home, sounds like the case with it tripping circuits while on load.

How is the power cabling that runs to your room?

Have you had this issue with any other power-hungry devices in your room?

how would I check the power cabling? I have a xbox 360 that the power went out once before i got the computer. other than that I only have a the router in my room and the computer turned on. I try not to have much on while i use my computer to avoid a power outage.

where would i check the rating? on the switch for my room it says "15a" if that helps

Make sure your computer and devices are off and unplug the fuse or flip the breaker for the room which has the computer, then go see the appliances or devices connected to that circuit if there are a lot of receptacles (more than 12) or high wattage devices it's probably overloading it.

As for checking the cabling is it old or newer cable most times you can see by the fuse/breaker box.

So 15 amps then. For a 110 volt system that means 1650 watts, and for a 230 volt system it means 3450 watts.

Let's say your computer components need 150 watts when the computer is idle, and that your 80+ power supply is nothing more than 80% efficient. That means your computer needs 180 watts, and will draw 1.6 amps at 110 volts, or 0.8 amps at 230 volts. This should not be nearly enough to trip a circuit breaker or blow a fuse, unless it is already under heavy load. Something might be wrong with your PSU or wiring.

there is one outlet in my room that is not affected by the outages or the switch being fliped. The things that were affected were the router, my phone and ipad charger, and an amp that i use to play music (its a small amp that says its 30 watts) and the computer. and the fuse box said it was installed in 2012

the fuse box says it was installed in 2012. there is one outlet that is not affected by the power outages. Would that indicate another power cable? sorry i'm not very well versed in this kind of stuff

Most of us aren't that well versed in it either...

Are you using a power splitter of any kind? and have you checked if that's the issue?

Ok yeah seems reasonable and not overloaded, if it's in a bedroom area it could be something to do with it being a arc fault breaker since they are very sensitive at detecting different types of electrical arcs to trip the breaker but I think it might be something to do with your PSU then as Jckf pointed out earlier.

I've tripped an arc fault breaker multiple times without any reason for it to trip since everything plugged in didn't have issues which was an oddity in my books.

thats what im worried about too. I know that it ould be a possibility but the power outages HAVE happened before. Just nowhere near as often as they have since i got the computer

Try connecting the pc directly to the wall temporarily, to see if its the surge protector (unlikely, but may be acting up)

By power outage I assume the breaker tripping, if you have a hefty extension cord try running it to a hallway or alternative plug like in the kitchen to see if it does the same thing, if it does something and trips a breaker might be wrong with your PSU since those areas are don't use arc fault breakers only bedroom areas.

ive tried different surge protectors. Ill try this too. Ive just been hesitant to because of the dangers of not using a surge protector on a computer
