Hello,

So basically, I have an old 9600 GT lying around and i want to install it in my rig, because it's better than my current 9500 GT. The problem is, the 9500 GT has a 50 Watts TDP and the 9600 GT has a 95 Watts TDP. I am running a Dell pc with the following specs:

  • Bestec ATX0300P5WB 300 Watts psu
  • Dell motherboard (don't know the name)
  • Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.3GHz (not overclocked)
  • 4 dimms of 1 GB DDR2 RAM

  • Geforce 9500 GT

  • ASUS Xonar DG

  • 2 normal hard drives

  • 1 optical drive

  • Card reader

  • 3 fans

Will the psu be able to run the 9600GT in this configuration or do i need a bigger psu?

Thanks in advance!

Lizzard.

You should be fine, but I really wouldn't trust that power supply....

You'll be close to pushing the limits of that PSU (according to eXtreme Power Supply Calculator)

System Type:   1 physical CPU   Motherboard:   Regular - Desktop   CPU Socket:   Socket LGA 775   CPU:   Intel Core 2 Duo E6650 2330 MHz Conroe   CPU Utilization (TDP):   100% TDP           RAM:   4 Sticks DDR2 SDRAM   Video Card 1:   NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

Regular SATA:   2 HDDs   Additional PCI Card (avg):   1 Card   Front Bay Card Reader:   Yes           Fans       High Performance:   3 Fans 120mm;             Keyboard and mouse:   Yes
System Load:   100 %               Minimum PSU Wattage:   270 Watts   Recommended Wattage:   320 Watts

Also, Bestec PSUs are not good, so I'd recommend upgrading.

First of all, thanks for the quick answers. Is it a bad idea to just try it with the 9600 GT and buy a new psu if my current one fails, or will that destroy my other components aswell?

It won't destroy your psu. It just won't boot.
