i5 4670k

Flowroro

Hi guys, my cpu has a problem, im using the i5 4670k and it just crashes in games after about 10-20 mins of gaming like crysis 3. i overclocked it to 4.0 ghz and it still crashes. idle temps are about 40 degrees at 4.0 and 45 at 4.2 ghz. load about 69-70. running 3d firestrike physx test peaks 80 cuz thats hardcore. im using the hyper 212x cooler, why is my cpu constantly crashing, is it because my cpu is faulty or what. crashing meaning my whole pc turns off/freezes

Well your overclocked.....so the CPU isn't stable and you need to lower the overclock.

raise the voltage a little bit. If not, your silicon lottery is bad, and you need to step it down a little.

You have to stabilize the overclock. I suggest you read the overclocking guide on the forum (or google for more):

If that doesn't work, you probably lost the lottery.

I gave up at 1.24 but there are those that go past 1.35. All up to you and what you're comfortable with

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Lower the clock speed.

lol boost clock is 3.8. 4.0 is nothing, 4.2 should be nothing for it to handle. crashes even on 3.9 ghz, wtf?

A few questions for you:

What steps did you take to overclock?

Which motherboard are you using?

Did you bump the VCCIN to at least 1.8v?

Are you overclocking per core or all cores?

Did you set it to non turbo mode?

Getting my 4670k to 4.4 took almost no effort and only about 1.23v. 4.5 took 1.28 and I can't hit 4.6 even with 1.4v.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top.
