PSU Wattage OVERKILL? Please help!

Go to solution Solved by r1Ns3,

Your stuff is quiet nice, I like it.

As for your PSU, you should be fine with 500 watts.

It did include the gpu in the estimate and the estimate is pretty accurate.

A decent 500w is already plenty. 650w+ is pretty overkill.

The 550 G is an excellent option: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-ssr550rm

Alright, seems like thread is solved. going for 600 watts to support like a bunch more fans.

Hey, yes I know I can go on the freaking pinned topic where it tells me how much power I need but I am too confused for that :(

So I am getting a new rig and have decided on all my parts except some fans and power supply. Well actually originally I thought I knew what PSU I wanted until I saw the estimated power usage!

In PCPartPicker, it says that my PC will use around 350 watts while on full load, and I am going to overclock it and MAYBE increase some voltages on my components. I was originally going for a

EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

But now it seems a bit overkill for a 400 watt system? Don't you think? I would appreciate some help down in the comments as to what company I should buy from and what efficiency rating it should have. Thanks guys, all help will be appreciated.

Side note: I do want more since I might upgrade, but not too much upgrading. Example: If system requires 400 watts, I would rather 600 or 575 or 650 or something higher than 400 by at least like 100 watts. I want a safe distance from my estimated usage than my actual PSU wattage. Hope that somehow made sense.

EDIT #1
Apparently PCPartPicker stuffed up on calculating the wattage and the full load is 650 watts if you include the gpu. Would this be enough for OVERCLOCKING? D: Thanks

Do you want to add a second GPU?

Also, i really wouldn't buy a Be Quiet! cooler. They might be great but it took me 5 hours to install mine.

They're mounting system is sort of garbage.

Should be fine

You could always go back to Haswell Refresh and get a 980Ti with the extra money if this build is purely for gaming too.

Hey, no I don't think I will because in 3.5 years time I will probably get a whole new computer anyway :)

Also I looked at some of your artwork and it really looked cool! I also share an interest in Graphics Design, here is some of my work :D

Hope you like em :D

Also I really don't care if it takes a week to get my computer working, I will take that into consideration but honestly they look absolutely badass and really suit my airflow setup :)

6700K and GTX980, a 600-650w PSU will do nicely. I doubt the whole system will pull more than 500w.

Must have been tired this morning. But still, 165W for an 2x 8pin card?

Its ether too low or there is plenty of headroom available.

I speak my mind, sorry if thats a problem.

Fans use very little power. 500w is already more than enough and 550w being extra for heavy oc'ing.
