Is G-Sync Worth It?

Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

Okay thank you.  If you dont mind me asking, why?

You're going to be getting anywhere between 60 and 200 fps in games - G-sync is for when you get 30-45

Im looking at getting a $250 CDN 24" (inch) 1080p 144hz 1ms response time monitor but also found a $400 CDN version that has all of that as well as g-sync.  Is g-sync really worth it?  While im on this topic, does it take extra Vram to use g-sync?  (i only ask because my 780ti only has 3gb vram)

Any help would be appreciated

780 Ti? G-sync isn't necessary.

60-200 fps in gta, arma 3, fallout 4, etc with a 780ti on 1080p very high-ultra?

GTA V - you will surely be getting above 60 fps on High - don't know about max

Arma 3 is CPU-bound - the GPU is not the liming factor

Fallout 4 - no idea - it's not out yet

Witcher 3 - you should be able to do 60 fps ultra settings hairworks off.

Wow... the one question ive been asking before this and you answered it in 2 posts (the gpu even thought we were talking about monitors)  Thank You.

I kinda feel bad to ask more considering youve helped alot, but would getting a second 780ti from the winter sales be a bad idea considering i plan to use the gpu/s for the next 3-5 years?

As long as your PSU can handle it why not, the VRAM is less than I'd prefer but if you can get a good deal on it yep.

No it's not.

G-Sync is for people who want to get rid of screen tearing and input lag. V-Sync only helps one of those things and causes another. G-Sync is a remedy for both.

G-Sync is currently rated to work between (IIRC - it may have changed and gotten way better) 35fps (Hz) to 144fps (Hz). So if you can run games above 35fps, then G-Sync will be noticeable and usable.

$388 for a new 780ti (still got to see if its more due to CDN to USA currency)

I doubt he'll be getting screen tearing or input latency on a 1ms 144Hz panel in the games listed :P

a 280 can run skyrim ultra with an enb, this is what fallout 4 will be like to run.

I ran skyrim ultra on my 6850 and Athlon II X2 - Skyrim is the lightest game I've seen actually xD

Soo im guessing a powerful but 3gb Vram 780ti should handle it?

It's fine :) - just don't go crazy with mods - those shred through VRAM even on the Titan X

It will when the monitor is set to refresh at 144hz and the GPU is only outputting 60.

You both should consider this post. They explain it better than I can:

As long as you don't stack visual mods, then you should be fine. If you do plan on it, you will want more vram.

*proceeds to tape 2 Titan Xs together*

this is how it works right?

G-Sync is for when the GPU is outputting frames faster than the monitor (which causes screen tearing without it) - so it's for when you're getting >35fps, like somebody else said, so you'll probably notice it.

Pro Tip: don't use flash when taking pictures of your build; use a longer exposure instead. Prop up your camera with something (preferably a tripod) if necessary.

if you use retarded/autistic/etc to mean stupid please gtfo
