Free editing software?

Im thinking about trying to make some gaming montages for fun. However the only editing programs i know are Adobe premiere and Sony Vegas and theyre all somewhat expensive. I want to only try out editing and of course adobe premiere at least has a free trial, but in case i get into it, are there any free editing programs that do the job out there?

You can use something like Lightworks. It's free until you need to export in certain codecs, but for making YouTube videos I guess you should be fine.

Lightworks looks pretty good. The free version can only render 720p but honestly i propably would have used that res anyways. Thanks for the feedback
