So after months of saving. Today I finally built my first ever PC.

After a few hours my build was finally complete (aside from a clean Windows install).

My parts list

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/cYJ3YJ

After first boot up ang getting into the UEFI bios (something I'm new to as I've been using a iMac since 2011) I noticed the CPU temp was 33 degrees, and MB temp was 24 degrees.... Are these normal temps?

Also my wireless logitech mouse was not working but my Logitech wireless keyboard was. I put this down to drivers at this point.

On trying to install my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit using my ZALMAN, I was unable to proceed past the installation drive screen, Windows would not install to the partition even after deleting and creating the partition again.

I read that installing from the disc would fix this .... Could anyone think of a reason why Windows is unable to install to the partition?

Apart from this the build has gone to plan and I'm very happy with my new rig

Can anyone recommend what to do after Windows is installed to make sure my rig is stable and all is ok ?

Thanks in advance

Gary

I've got the stock CPU cooler installed. I already had Windows 7 so this wasn't factored into the price of the build.

4690K doesn't come with a stock cooler AFAIK

Part picker selects the CPU that must not include the cooler

What? Either way, do you have a GPU then lol? And please take a picture inside the case so we can be sure.

It does. The OEM one doesn't, neither does Skylake.

Probably badly seated then. 90*C in bios is absurd

Mine did.... I wouldn't buy a CPU that didn't include a cooler

Did you push the pins all the way in?

a GPU is something I've planned for in the future hence why I've gone for a 650w PSU and the 4690K which I plan to overclock in the future too

If you don't fix the cooling on it the only thing you'll be overclocking is the RAM

Where are you getting your temps form? I said 33 degrees at idle .... No where near 90 degrees

Normal getting a 80 or 90 Degree isnt normal

Let me rephrase.... Is 33c a good temp at idle?

Thanks

What are the ambient temps, this seems fairly normal. Also you should run a cpu benchmark to see what the load temperatures will be. This is where you will see the biggest difference once you get a better cpu cooler. The stock cooler is fine at idle but once you get full load it struggles. And if your ambient temps are warm, it might thermal throttle with the stock heatsink and harm your performance. If you don't have a lot of money just pick up a hyper 212 evo. It will me more than enough to get a decent overclock on your cpu.

Ambient temps will be around 20 degrees C (as I live in the UK).

The PC will be my Workstation for mainly work purposes at the moment, but later will act as my way to get into "Casul" PC gaming. At that stage I was thinking of buying a Hyper212 EVO for cooling and a GeForce GTX 970 or 980.

Thanks for the info! Appreciate it
