"My" awful 1st PC

I built my first PC this summer, except I was building one with a friend for him. I'm the most PC apt person out of our friends, but I dare not say I knew enough. I may have made a few mistakes....

Here's the build. It's a modest build, but my friend doesn't need much.

i3, don't remember which, but it was 3xxx series. I also bought an LGA1150 board, which meant we had to cancel the order and buy a different one quite quickly. (He was getting impatient) I didn't realize at the time that it lacked USB 3.0 front headers...

750ti, ran Planetside 2 alright. That's his most demanding game, so it wasn't a terrible choice. I wish the 950 had been out then, though.

8GB RAM, hard to screw up there.

Forgive me LTT, for I bought him the CX430, which I guess is not the greatest of PSUs.

I had forgotten to plug in the CPU power for a while, and I didn't plug in the CPU cooler header while Windows was installing. (We had to go buy an external DVD reader just for the install.)

So yeah, I screwed up a couple times. I'm volunteer tech support for the rest of my days as well.

I learned a lot, though. Can't wait to do it again (and better) for one of my other buds.

Oh, and the motherboard only had enough fan headers for the front 140 and the CPU cooler. I hope passive exhaust is a thing...

get a flash drive, put windows on it = no more optical

 

glad you had as good time, but next time post here before you buy and we can advise so you dont make the mistakes again =)

Oh well, shit happens...

On my first attempt to build i forgot to screw in the motherboard stand-offs and screwed in mobo to the case, luckily i didn't fry my mobo because i realized that the mobo din't fit due to the i/o plate :P

glad you had as good time, but next time post here before you buy and we can advise so you dont make the mistakes again =)

I was not a forum-goer at the time. The parts themselves weren't all that bad of choices, but I made a lot of building errors

It seems okay really - ivy i3s weren't groundbreaking but were fine. 750 ti is fine with that CPU and the RAM is enough. The only thing I'd have changed is the PSU to an XFX model.
