So I’m building a new pc, my old pc had windows 7 (64bit) installed on it and me being the cheapskate I am and having a fetish for windows 7, I want to know is it possible to get it reactivated? I have the box it came it with the license sticker. If so how & where do i go to do this? And as a little FYI I live in Australia (in case it requires calling a phone number). Also as a side question is it true that windows 7 32bit keys/licenses will also work with a win 7 64 bit installation giving the user a 64bit version of win 7?

If your Windows 7 license is Retail license, then you'll have no problem.

If you have Windows 7 OEM/System Builder then it is locked to the first system you installed the OS onto.

Yes and no to the working question. Windows has a ton of different types of licenses. To put it simply, Retail license (the box of Windows you purchase as stand alone from a store) works with both and actually comes with both disks. OEM (the one that comes with the computer) is tied to the version it originally was, might come with a disk but that depends. It'll say retail on the label if it's retail and something along the lines of OEM / COA if it's OEM.

And yes with a but to the reactivation question. All licenses can be reactivated. It goes:

1) No re-activation required. The modification wasn't drastic enough to make it seem like the computer is not the same one any more.

2) Online activation. The question was raised but re-checking verified no foul play.

3) Phone-based activation (It's a robot, not a person). Either there's a connection issue or the online automatic checking procedure is inconclusive or fails.

4) Customer service-verified activation. If the phone-activation fails too, it'll direct the call to a customer service agent. You can then make your case. Tell them it's an upgrade, not a new computer, if it's an OEM license. If it's retail, it doesn't matter.

I've re-activated hundreds of computers. Sometimes it was a bit iffy but they've never denied it if the license wasn't blacklisted. As in leaked online. If you get a single hit of your license key on google, it's leaked and blacklisted.
