Wasn't there a Dell Alienware thing you could hook up that could house a full size GPU?

Ah, let me just stop you there. There are Avermedia capture cards that come in M.2 form factor. if you have a laptop with an extra M.2 slot, you can hook the capture card up with that.

Technically M.2 is just a generic PCIe x4 interface in a tiny package, so you could theoretically connect a PCIe riser to the M.2 slot, run it outside the laptop and run a full desktop graphics card. I don't know if it's supported by firmware or whatever, but it's supported by the hardware at least. Also, it's only a Gen2 x4 interface, so... a graphics card isn't gonna do very well in that regard. Just a crazy idea, don't ever actually try this.

Since when did m.2 capture cards exist! I had no idea about that

They dont want to install a graphics card, they want to install a capture card into their laptop

EDIT: its not even listed on their site, can only find reference to it in the Aorus X5 and most laptops dont have full length m.2 ports

I know, I was just using it as an example of what M.2 actually is. It's designed and generally used for drives, but being a simple PCIe interface you can connect basically anything if it comes in M.2. Like, for instance, capture cards.

Actually that's an idea for when lithography gets small enough - entry level dedicated graphics chips on M.2 with a heatsink and everything. By then it'll be PCIe 3.0, so no real issue with bandwidth there...

Sorry, rambling :P

built in capture card ? can it be used to connect to consoles ?

just less clutter/things to take on the move, just simply prefer to not see it next to laptop

no its only for internal, there are no laptops that can record via HDMI in, even on the few laptops that have HDMI in

you will have to get an external capture box for consoles and laptops if you want to do both with one device, a little elgato is not really much clutter
