check out the Monoprice Single Diaphragm Condenser Microphone. It's what Jay uses, and is a really good bang for the buck. 

 

also, AT2020

 

the Blue Yeti isn't worth it IMO. it seems overpriced for what it is.

Seeing a lot of Blue Yeti suggestions in here, and as an owner of one I'd like to comment about it.

 

The sound quality is absolutely great. It has different modes making it one of the most versatile microphones out there. But it's an absolute pain sometimes. The microphone itself is just so big, and it doesn't fit in some standard shock mounts. If I could go back I would have gotten an AT-2020 instead, especially since I never take my Blue Yeti out of cardioid mode.
