Hey all,

I am looking into buying a 144Hz monitor and been looking around and was wondering if G-Sync is worth it. I have a MSI 970 at the moment so I am looking into G-Sync ( I am guessing this is the right one instead of Free Sync :D

I am just interestead in the difference between normal 144Hz and 144Hz and G-Sync

Thanks in advance

G-sync is a variable refresh rate technology that gives no screen tearing without the performance drop of something like v sync by changing the refresh rate of the monitor to whatever your GPU is able to push out at the time.

I'd say if you can afford it sure. But if you're looking at a monitor that might be a bit too expensive for you but you're considering it just because it has g-sync. Don't buy it.

Kind of. G-Sync does not replace V-Sync, but can work along side it to improve the gaming experience. It works when below the monitor's refresh rate, matching the monitor to the GPU. This means that you don't have to drop down to 30FPS when you dip below 60FPS like you would have to with VSync. It basically makes everything smoother when under the refresh rate. However, if you go over the refresh rate, GSync does nothing, and is either just disabled, or switches over to VSync, depending on the settings selected.

EDIT: @Grem0 I'd say GSync is definitely worth it. Especially for high refresh rate monitors, as it is going to be active most of the time. It will allow you to use higher settings, while still looking smooth.

If you play games that have a dependence on FPS, there isn't even a question anymore.  Once you see it, you'd never ask the question "is it worth it" again.
