Does it exist?

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

PCI-e is faster and I don't really want an ugly M.2 SSD... Unless I find a decent read/write speed, black shrouded M.2 SSD.

Check this MSI board it's on the rear of the board you won't see it at all, also there are some really fast M.2 SSD's out there.

I'm looking for a mini-DTX board with two PCI-e slots on the Z97 chipset. Does it exist? I've Googled it, but I can't find much except for an older thread on the subject...

It kind of shot down my hopes and dreams, but it's been nearly a year since this was posted. Surely one must exist?

No boards like that current exist form my knowledge but it's basically the same as getting an MATX board if your running dual slot cards.

Doubt it

Not that many cases will even support it.

Most ITX cases dont even have physically space for it.

Never even heard of a DTX case.

ITX just makes more sense. Just get a more powerful GPU!

I don't need two GPUs (I'm using a 980Ti, plenty for 1080p or even 1440p). I'm using the extra PCI-e slot for an SSD.

EDIT: I'm using the ThermalTake Core X1 case, and, yes, it is compatible with a mini-DTX board.

Why not just get an ITX one with a high end M.2 SSD if your going for small builds MSI and some others have an ITX board with an M.2 slot integrated.

Why a PCIE SSD? Why not mPCIE?

Need the speed? Because dtx seems nonexistent.

I couldn't find any good looking boards (ITX) under $200 with a mPCI-e slot.

What's the difference between the ACK and the AC?

ACK has the WiFi module pre-installed.

EDIT:

Nevermind, I was clearly wrong.

What's the difference between the ACK and the AC?

From looking over it a bit it seems like mainly extra features like I/O but the ACK version is the one with the M.2 option on the back of the board where the AC doesn't have that.

According to MSI, they both have M.2. I figured out the difference: ACK has an auto OC control.

The AC version doesn't have M.2 as on option under storage:

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/Z97I_GAMING/1.html

From MSI's site for the AC version:

On-Board SATA

• Intel Z97 Express Chipset

- 4 x SATA 6Gb/s ports (SATA1~4)

- 2 x eSATA ports

- Supports RAID 0, RAID1, RAID 5 and RAID 10

- Supports Intel® Smart Response Technology, Intel® Rapid Start Technology and Intel® Smart Connect Technology*

*Supports Intel Core processors on Windows 7 and Windows 8/ 8.1

Keep in mind that the MSI board only supports 2260 and 2240 m.2 ssds whereas most current m.2 drives, including the one on newegg linked earlier, are the longer 2280 size.

I'm going with a different board because the MSI one isn't for sale anywhere.
