My specs:
i5-4690k stock clock
Hyper 212 EVO
Gigabyte GA-Z97MX Gaming 5
8gb Kingston 1600Mhz DDR3
128gb Corsair SSD
1tb Western Digital HDD
R9 280
Thermaltake Core V21
Corsair CSM 650w
Windows 7

So I wanted to access my bios. I turned my PC off and turned it back on. Hit F2 to access the bios. The bios DOES load, but the instant I move the mouse, it freezes up and I cannot do anything. The clock on the bios still changes every second and shows the correct time. I have no idea why I cannot do anything in the bios. The PC works just fine and plays games at max settings 1080p. It works perfectly except this problem with the bios. Can anyone help me out?

All help is appreciated and thanks in advance

(Also in case you need to know, I built this PC about a month ago so it is basically new)

if you have a overclock..disable the overclock and set the bios to defaults with the jumper/switch

Or just remove the CMOS battery with power removed for a few minutes.

How do I remove the CMOS battery? It'a right under my GPU so do I just remove the GPU and pop out the CMOS battery? PC is unplugged of course. Do I have to pull out my RAM and CPU as well as anything else? Or can I just leave all that stuff inside?

Remove the graphics card to access it. Everything else can remain intact.

Ok so I just took out the CMOS battery and let it sit for like 5-10 minutes. Put it back in and the BIOS worked. I saved and rebooted, then turned off my PC. Started my PC up again and pressed F2 to enter BIOS, and it froze the instant I moved my mouse. What could possibly be causing this problem?

Have you updated the BIOS at all or tried messing with the BIOS? Does the system work fine normally?

I have not updated the BIOS (I wouldn't think I'd have to with a Z97 board and a 4690K). Last night was the first time I ever tried messing with the BIOS save for the night I built it. Last night was the first time I noticed this issue. The system runs perfectly fine normally so I have no idea what's up with this problem

*UPDATE*

I tried once again to access the BIOS after looking around at some troubleshooting. I am now allowed to navigate the BIOS via my arrow keys, but I was able to use the mouse before. How come I cannot use the mouse? I mean as far as I'm aware, I can do everything with the keyboard alone, but my mouse pointer is frozen so for the sake of convenience I'd like to be able to use it

I would try re-flashing the BIOS chip with the latest BIOS.

Now I'm having worse problems. I was able to use the arrow keys to navigate my BIOS. I overclocked my CPU (4.4Ghz at 1.24vcore) and now games are running extremely slow. I try to go back into the BIOS to restore the clocks and voltages to stock, and I can no longer use the arrow keys to get around. Did I just goof up my PC?

As I said, re-flash the BIOS to see if that fixes your problems. Make sure you're running the latest revision too.

Fix the bios before you try and overclock....

remove your mouse then try and use the bios and see if it still freezes. Use USB 2.0 ports as well.

Flash the bios if possible.

Sure the ram is correct? Correct speeds, timings and volts?

It's not a race to the bottom.

So I just completely take out the mouse and try? How do I flash the BIOS (Sorry I've never done this before). I'm sure the RAM was good. It said it was running at 1600Mhz when I overclocked my CPU.

Yes. You can easily navigate the bios using a keyboard.

Your user manual will show you how to flash your bios. It's a simple process when done correctly.

Download your latest bios and place it on a USB stick.

Load into bios, find your bios flash (I think Asus calls it Ezflash?) and follow the steps.

It will do all the hard work itself.

The machine will restart, let it do its thing. It might restart a few times. Give it time.

Once you're back on the bios screen you're done.

All in all it's a 30 second to 2 minutes process.

Go into bios and check your ram speed and timings. Your speed may be correct but timings could be wrong.

It's not a race to the bottom.
