CPU coolers than aren't big?

Was doing some research on CPU coolers and as of now I'm seconds away to buy the hyper 412S. Seems like a great cooler, only issue IMO is that they are so big so I'm wondering are there smaller equivalent coolers? Just questioning this out of curiosity as for now I'm focused on buying the 412S

There's a Cooler Master GeminII low profile cooler. It's short but not exactly "small".

Any small equivalently performing cooler generally needs a faster/louder fan to compensate for the lack of surface area. The rule of thumb is to get the largest heatsink possible for lower noise.
