Silver Coil or Mayhems Biocide

What do you guys prefer?

And how long would the silver coil be effective for?

You could use both if you wanted to. Silver is effective for petty much forever. I use a kill coil + distilled.

Keep in mind neither is 100%. If you throw together some dirty old used loop you're gonna have an aquarium. Rinse everything  (yes even new) with hot water and then twice with distilled before assembly, then add the kill coil.

Error: 410

I have a kill coil and it's lasted over a year without having to change. It pretty much looks brand new, my guess is it'll last for atleast a few years.

I also have a small amount of primochill liquid utopia.

That's surprising, from what I have heard it should be replaced around every 6-12 months.

I expected the same and have 9 spare coils in storage but I've been monitoring my loop for the whole year and my coil is still pretty much brand new and shiny.

I always thought destilled/demineralized water doesn't work on it's own because it pulls ions from the varoius metals in the blocks/radiators and becomes conductive over time.

True, all distilled/demineralised water does become conductive over time. It doesn't work on its own and that's what the kill coil or biocide is to used for (as an anit-algae/antimicrobial additive).

fun fact: Coolants marketed as non conductive do eventually become conductive over time as well.

Never forget the * every time it says non-conductive: "We do not take responsibility if it is conductive."

Not only fun, but usefull as well. I did not know that and was therefore favouring premixed coolants over destilled water.
