Headset Setup

Hey guys, I am new to this forum and new to building Pc's and Pc's in general. I bought a new headset and I have no clue on how to setup the microphone. There are seperate microphone and headphone ports and I can only plug it into one. How do I get the headphone's and mic to work at the same time.

The connector on your head set has 4 poles. The ports each are probably 3 poles, so all you need is an adapter like this one http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16882203159
