Do you need the OS

My Build: i7-4790K, 212 Evo, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR3-1600, Intel 730 240GB SSD, WD Blue 1TB, EVGA GTX 980Ti ACX 2.0, NZXT H440 Blue/Black, EVGA 650W 80+Gold.

Most of the time, it's not the computer, it's the person using it.

Okay, lets see what you guys can come up with. Ive got $700 CAD for a gaming pc. I don't need a monitor, a mouse,  a keyboard, or an SSD (have one already). I need to use a nvidia gpu so I can stream games to my shield tablet. Also the 700 must include shipping to Canada.

it will sutter badly in AAA titles

remember, he is streaming to his tablet. so you need more cores to do both game + streaming.... i would either go with FX or i5 here... i3 would probably struggle a bit and the G3258 would be a trainwreck when you try to stream AND play....

Oh ok, sorry, i'm kinda new to the whole idea of this. I think I focussed more on his budget than his needs...

So this: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/mxjynQ would be better?

drop the TX3.... you wont need it, as you wont be able to OC that FX very much at all and the stock cooler will be good enough to handle whatever OC that mobo can pull off

<--in canada..I wouldn't suggest trying to build a gaming rig for 700$ cad right now...its really hard to get anything decent for the price

both of you, he is using a Nvidia SHIELD TAB.... if you had bothered to read the OP, you would have noticed he "must" stream to his tablet.

Thus a Radeon card wont work, also, i think the i3 will be a tad too weak to handle game + streaming, it lacks cores, so either i5 or the FX 6300 for this... pref i5, but its hard to make a i5 fit into budget while not getting shafted on the GPU side.

the i3 struggles with some AAA titles already, adding streaming ontop of these will not help this. Not at all

not very many

true, but this is today, and tomorrow will arrive (unless a mega asteroid wipes us all out).

Saying a i3 is fine today, while having no indication if it will fare much better in newer titles is a bit risky.... The FX wont perform miraculously, but DX12 atleast DO use 6 cores (from AMDs slides regarding DX12, it seems like 6 cores/threads are the point where you start seeing diminishing returns in terms of draw calls)... So if anything, we know that pretty much every new DX12 game should exploit all the potential of the FX...

This means that while it WONT be gaining much performance, you will if nothing else, not having to guess if the game will even use the CPU properly...

If a game is made to make good use of more then 4 cores/threads, a i3 will struggle.... we see this today with The Witcher 3. It performs good, but it dips more often then the FX 6300.... i realize that this is DX11 and that Witcher 3 is a fantastically well optimized game, but non-the less, i wouldnt bet on a i3 being AS good with DX12 compared to a i5 or FX 6/8 core, as it is in DX11...

After all, we know by now that DX11 puts most of the load on core 1 and 2, even if the game is written to use more cores....
