iPad 1 not recognized by computer/iTunes

I recently got an iPad 1st gen and I wanted to use it to watch videos and go on the internet, but the previous owner had done a factory reset and the iPad is requesting that it should be connected to iTunes. However, whatever I do does not work, iTunes and my computer completely ignore it (windows displays a "does not recognize device" message) and I am getting annoyed with the lack of solution for this problem. I know this is probably Apple and planned obsolescence, but if there is a solution, I would be extremely appreciative of it.

First make sure you have iTunes up to date and all your Windows updates installed.

Completely uninstall all your security and antivirus software. Don't just disable them. If you're worried about internet threats while troubleshooting, turn off wifi and/or unplug your ethernet cable.  Since you have a "new" device plugged in, it's entirely possible (but not guaranteed [that's why this test must be done]) that your security/AV software is blocking it.

Most of the time, using the Control Panel to remove security software is not enough. Check the developers' websites for uninstall utilities and/or removal instructions with file locations. Seriously.

Let us know the status after that.

Try another cable; If the cable is failing or a non-apple cable, it can fail to transfer data/install drivers.
Also plug into a USB port on the back of your motherboard instead of the front (USB 2 if possible).
