will a 45+mm thick 240mm radiator cool a GTX 970 good? also should you watercool your mobo?

It'll be fine. Only water cool your MOBO if you're doing some extreme OCing, and I mean, like, SERIOUS OCing, like, 3.5 GHz to 5 GHz on an Intel based system. Just water cool your CPU.

ok

If your doing custom watercooling and just using the 240mm for a GPU that's good but you should integrate your CPU into the loop with a larger rad at that point since the cost to do so is not that much in the big scheme of things.
